Toolbar Uninstall

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponDigg This
I despise toolbars. They have been place on this earth to annoy and impede everyone's browsing experience. I am amazed at the number of users who don't even know how to get rid of these evil small bliters. They usually get onto your machine because they are a very effective way of getting brand names right in front of you. You try out a piece of free software but you just don't quite spot that tiny gray tickbox just sitting out of your line of site. You know the one. Well lets get rid of all 3rd party toolbars. Internet Explorer suffers the most by far. So try this, navigate to the tools menu and locate "ad-ons" or "manage ad-ons". Right-click on the toolbar name then click "Disable". Hey presto, the toolbar disappears. The next thing is to locate the toolbar's name in your installed programs and uninstall it. You'd be amazed how easily they manage to become re-enabled. I hope this helps, I'd be glad to hear any related or similar problems you're having with toolbars. Feel free to drop me a comment. Bookmark and Share

Microsoft Word and double spacing of lines

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponDigg This
Straight away I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of Microsoft Word. It's the most well loved word processor in the world but I prefer OpenOffice, Even Power Point gives the flexibility that Word should give you. It's just too stuck in its ways. Freshly installed and ready to go, Office 2007. I start-up Word and start typing. I hit return and WHAT!, it's double spacing my lines - how infuriating is that? After some searching I find that the default "Normal" style in Word 2007 uses double line spacing. That is just plain stupid. Tip - Before you do anything in MS Word, make sure you change the style option to "No Spacing". It's a pretty basic thing don't you reckon? Who wants to have huge spaces between lines of text? Not many. This is what Word 2007 shows when you hover over the "Normal" style option:- Line spacing: Multiple 1.15 li I just find it incredible that people don't abandon MS Office all together. Somehow, no matter how annoying it is, MS have managed to get Office to be accepted as the world wide standard. Thank goodness for PDF, our only saviour. I refuse to provide word document files wherever possible. I use Open Office and export to PDF. Call me awkward and you may well do if you haven't tried Open Office. Give it a go, it's FREE. Installing Windows on a blank hard drive

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponDigg This
This is the best way to achieve a clean and uncluttered install of any Windows operating system. If you have a terribly corrupted Windows operating system then first of all you will want to blank the hard drive first. This can be easily achieved by booting from a Linux boot disk then using the "dd" command to write directly to the hard drive. I shall cover the Linux boot in another post. Place your Windows install CD into the CD-ROM drive and restart the computer. As the BIOS starts, hit DEL or F2 or whatever your BIOS requires to enter the setup and set it to boot from the CD-ROM drive first, followed by the hard drive you wish to install Windows on. Save your settings and restart the computer. This should now start the Windows installation procedure. See below Sponsored Links

Choosing a partition size is completely at your discretion, personally if I am only installing Windows on the computer then I choose the whole of the hard drive. From XP onward only a quick format is required. The vital thing is that you have or obtain any required drivers for your hardware. This is not always provided if you have an "off the shelf" computer. The main thing is that Windows recognises your network interface. If you have this working then you can get back on the internet and download those missing drivers. I shall cover this matter in another post.
