My installation of my SlimLine 5 dish with off air antenna integration. You don't have to install this yourself. DirecTV will gladly do it for you, but I have been installing my own dishes for about 10 years so I always just do it. This is my 3rd SlimLine 5 dish I have set up. If you have the skills to do it I recommend you do. I have seen some pretty shoddy DTV installs. Plus its fun! ;-) You can get the dish and tools necessary to do it yourself off eBay. If you have any questions feel free to ask. You are also supposed to use Solid Copper Core RG6, however I just used my existing RG6 which was Copper Clad Steel cable. Seems to work fine. Plus you are not supposed to use crimp style connectors, but I have bags of them and they always worked fine for me. I did this as simply as a I could. It is very hot outside!! ;-) Video Rating: 4 / 5

SMC® Networks (http://www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the SMB/e and all the way home, will begin shipping two new additions to its Barricade™ line of secure Broadband routers: the Barricade VPN 4-Port Broadband Router (SMCBR14VPN), and the Barricade VPN 8-port Broadband Router (SMCBR18VPN) in late-August. These new Barricade VPN Broadband Routers carry MSRPs of $ 99.99 and $ 129.99, respectively.

The new Barricade VPN Broadband routers allow users to create secure Virtual Private Networking tunnels to share files, Internet connections and even play multi-computer games- making the products perfect for telecommuters, SMB and home users alike. Users are able to create secure VPN connections over the Internet and share them with multiple computers through use of the built-in VPN functionality. Ideal as the centerpiece for a small business network the Barricade VPN allows users to create secure VPN tunnel connections to a corporate network from a home or remote office location. Barricade VPN routers have both an integrated VPN Server and VPN client to support multiple VPN connections using IPSec, PPTP, and L2TP protocols.

For network protection, the routers come with an Advanced SPI Firewall to protect computers from DoS (Denial of Service) and other malicious attacks like Ping of Death, SYN Flood, Land Attacks, and IP Spoofing. To complement this advanced firewall, the Barricade VPN also supports SNMP, static routing, DMZ hosting, port forwarding, system logging, email alerts, and two user accounts to make management easy and flexible. Each Barricade VPN also has a 10/100Mbps WAN port for use with high-speed Internet connections as well as a COM port for use with an external dial-up or ISDN modem, to employ either as the main Internet connection or as a fail-over if the broadband cable or DSL service goes down.

The SMCBR14VPN Barricade VPN Router incorporates a 4-Port 10/100Mbps Auto-Sensing Switch to connect wired computers or additional switches, so the network grows easily; the SMCBR18VPN has an integrated 8-port 10/100 Auto-sensing switch.

Active Air Networks Wisconsin Launches New Broadband and Wireless Networks in Wisconsin

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponDigg This

This is a how-to for manually setting up a Wireless Home Media Network. This way you can share music movies and just about everything else through anything connected to the network in your house, with no wires.

Jackson, Wisconsin (PRWEB) July 21, 2005 -

– Active Air Networks Wisconsin will begin delivering high speed broadband and wireless technologies to consumers and business users throughout Wisconsin communities. Active Air Networks Wisconsin has secured substantial private funds from individual investors to begin building out networks to assist with economic development through deployment of citywide wireless technologies including broadband point to point, point to multipoint and 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi standards. In launching these technologies in rural villages and towns, Active Air Networks Wisconsin will be able to provide broadband services to homes and businesses as well as provide wireless access throughout entire communities.

Active Air Networks Wisconsin will work jointly with Broadband Network Services to engineer and build wireless broadband solutions. Active Air Networks Wisconsin will comply with Wi-Fi Forum Standards utilizing Proxim and Redline wireless broadband software. Both wireless network build out and software providers offer high reliability and exceptional performance in wireless connectivity. The equipment installation consists of small antennas and related equipment, far less intrusive than cellular equipment, and maintains the aesthetic quality of local architecture.

The service will bring high speed Internet services where users want it most; at home, at work, and at play. Active Air Networks Wisconsin is poised to be a low cost alternative to DSL, so that customers no longer have to be dependent on proximity to cable or DSL availability in their area. The service is mobile, yet high speed at 1 to 3 mega bits per second. Businesses can benefit by having more broadband choices, employees can increase productivity by being wireless, and service businesses can take advantage of mobile networks.

“Our goal at Active Air Networks Wisconsin is to be the first and best provider of fast, affordable and portable wireless broadband services and applications in rural markets throughout Wisconsin,” according to Rick Thomas, Managing Partner. “Our plan is to work directly with business and community leaders in villages across Wisconsin in adopting the technology and launching networks to residents and local merchants.”

The network will begin deployment in July 2005 in multiple villages and towns throughout Washington County.
